Maltafly.it – a new route from Malta to Sicily
From 20 June 2014, Maltafly is to start a service between Malta and Palermo, departing every Friday and Monday.
Prices start at around €54 each way including tax (based on a headline before-tax starting price of €35 each way), and there’s a fair bit of availability of the €35 fare (which, with taxes, works out at around €108 all-in return). Maximum fare is apparently €90 plus tax each way.
Departures are as follows (every Friday/Monday):
- Dep MLA 10:00 Arr Palermo 11:00
- Dep Palermo 11:45 Arr MLA: 12:45
Prices include 20kg of checked in baggage, and 5kg of hand luggage.
Who are Maltafly?
Maltafly Limited was incorporated as a Maltese company in November 2013 and its shareholders are an Italian businessman and a Maltese marketing agency Markit Business Solutions Limited.
I spoke to the CEO, who tells me that Maltafly is a tour operator, duly licensed in Malta. Palermo has apparently been targeted as a new destination from Malta, given that the route was vacated by Air Malta in 2008.
Per their website, they are using Medavia’s 50 seat Dash 8-300 propeller plane for their flights to Sicily.
