Huge reductions on intra-Asian air travel – flights from US$4!

Asian low cost carrier AirAsia is currently running an impressive “Big Sale” on flights between certain Asian destinations.

While we appreciate this is not of immediate relevance to the European traveller, it may save you a lot of money if you intend to fly to Asia from Europe, and then need an onward intra-Asian journey.

By way of example, we flagged a return flight between Heathrow and Bangkok at £469 with Finnair yesterday. This coincides with the AirAsia sale in March 2015, so you could then fly on to Chiang Mai for US$10, or Phuket for US$14 each-way.

Other impressive one-way, all-in, prices include Bali-Perth at $36. Kuala Lumpur-Hong Kong at $60, Bangkok-Krabi at $14, Bangkok-Singapore at $43 and Manila-Shanghai at $47.

The Big Sale applies to flights between 1 March and 24 October 2015, and you need purchase your tickets by 31 August 2014 (so yes, tickets need to be bought substantially in advance). However, if you’re currently planning to fly within Asia between March and October next year, this is well worth a look.

The full list of “starting prices” can be found here.

We have checked, and there is currently wide availability of the promotional prices. Where the bargain basement starting prices are not available, you are nevertheless likely to be able to find a very good value fare (e.g. $12 rather than $4…).

  1. Fair point, particularly where you’re getting a connection on the same day.

My advice to anyone would be have a day or two in Bangkok in any event. Don Mueang is then a very similar distance from the city centre to the new airport (Suvarnabhumi), so in these circumstances it makes little difference.
