Flying to and from Malta – a few new routes, and a new frequent flyer scheme
No outstanding special offers yet, but the last couple of days have seen the announcement of a number of new air routes to Malta, which also brings Malta a new frequent flyer scheme, BalticMiles.
Heading east with BalticMiles
Latvian airline AirBaltic is to launch a new route from Riga to Malta on 11 May 2013. While Riga may not necessarily be your destination of choice, it offers numerous connections to Eastern Europe and Russia. It also has a standalone frequent flyer scheme, BalticMiles, registration for which is here. I’ll of course feature any good deals via Air Baltic/BalticMiles as they arise. Indeed, it may feature quite regularly on Maltapoints, if it’s any good.
BalticMiles are also tied into the Hilton Hhonors scheme (you earn Hhonors points with BalticMiles and vice versa – in fact you earn both at present, as it currently offers “double dipping”). Hhonors is an old favourite of Maltapoints (we really like the Hilton Portomaso), so also stay tuned to our updates on Hhonors. In the spirit of this website, there’s also a gentle special offer to kick you off with – you earn 3 x BalticPoints on Hilton stays booked before 31 December 2012. Combine that with the pretty-much unbeatable Christmas/New Year discount at the Hilton Portomaso featured here, and you can have a nice stash of BalticMiles in time for the May launch.
Good old Ryanair…
Ryanair is not this website’s favourite airline by any stretch of the imagination. However, it has launched a few new routes to Malta. From March 2013, Ryanair will fly to Malta daily from Milan Bergamo, thrice weekly from Liverpool and twice weekly from Gothenburg in Sweden.
Rest assured, we’ll be keeping an eye out for all special offers…
