Malta-USA non-stop flights one step closer

Back in September 2013, MaltaPoints reported on the application by an airline called Hi Fly Malta for a permit to fly directly between Malta and New York JFK.

It was reported today (8 July) that the application has been successful. This means that, under the terms of the “Open Skies” agreement between the USA and EU, Hi Fly Malta can basically use this permit to fly from Malta (or indeed any other point in the EU) to any point in the USA.

Hi Fly Malta’s Portugese parent company currently owns a number of aeroplanes with the capacity to fly transatlantic routes, so both the permission and infrastructure for Malta-USA flights now seems to be in place.

So, Malta to US flights on their way? It will certainly be very interesting to see how Hi Fly Malta put this permit into practice, and we shall keep you posted.
