Maltese government pushing for direct flights to China
As reported in the Times of Malta, the Maltese government is currently pushing to establish a direct air link between Malta and China “in the coming months”.
Maltese Prime Minister Joseph Muscat has recently been in China to promote trade links between the countries, and a key focus of his campaign appears to be an attempt to attract Chinese tourists to Malta. As part of this, Malta is already working on a quicker visa process for Chinese nationals.
Despite our slightly cheeky Air China picture, there’s no clear indication as yet of who might actually operate such flights, but unless it adds rather dramatically to its short-haul fleet (a highly unlikely move), it won’t be Air Malta. Air China, the Chinese flag carrier, would be our stand-out favourite.
Another matter we will keep you posted on…
