50% bonus on Avios purchases – 3 days only
British Airways has just launched its “best ever bonus” on purchases of Avios, its frequent flyer currency.
If you buy 2,000 or more Avios before midnight (GMT) on 25 February 2015, you will get a 50% bonus on the Avios you receive. BA recently increased the maximum number of Avios you can purchase per year from 27,000 to 35,000 Avios. As such, you can buy up to 35,000 Avios (receiving 52,500 Avios for a 35k purchase).
Factoring in the bonus, you will pay £575 for the 35,000 (52,570 with bonus) Avios, which is 1.09p per Avios. At the lower end, purchases of 2,000 (3,000 with bonus) Avios will cost you £47, so 1.57p per Avios.
As a general rule, I am rarely a buyer of air miles. Given that I value them at around 1p per Avios, this is also slightly above my valuation. However, if you need to top up an account to redeem a flight, now is absolutely the time to buy.
1p/mile? In accrual? I’m stunned! Using credit card or plane tickets only?
I’m not going to start a debate on air mile values, it’s an entirely impossible task and there obviously is no right answer! 🙂
However, in terms of my ballpark (and it’s a very ballpark) figure, based on the redemptions I have made over the years (and taking into account the variety of ways of earning and burning miles), I think 1p per Avios is a reasonable estimate.
Clearly, if you spend all your Avios on Economy redemptions, they’re likely to be worth a lot less than that, but use them with a bit of thought, and 1p (or better) is certainly achievable.
Its not in GBP brosef… its USD………….
