Vueling announce a new route from Malta to Rome – more Avios options

Vueling has announced a new base in Rome for summer 2014, from which they will fly three times weekly to Malta. Exact dates, times and pricing has not yet been announced, and the flights are not open for sale, but the press release is here.

Vueling is owned by IAG, the same company that owns BA and Iberia. As a result, an often overlooked element to Vueling flights (not least because it has its own frequent flyer currencey, Punto Punto) is that you can earn and spend Avios on Vueling flights. Avios is an increasingly valuable frequent flyer currency for the Maltese traveller, given that when BA return to Malta next year, you can get return flights to London for 20,000 Avios plus £35 tax.

  1. True, but you need to make sure that your Avios for Vueling flights come from an Iberia account, don’t you?

    1. You do – which is why I would recommend any serious Avios collector have accounts with Iberia, Avios.com and BA Executive club. You can easily transfer between them via the helpful “combine my Avios” function on Avios.com, something I use a lot.
