British Airways sale – £1 tax on flights (inc. Malta) and 50% off Avios redemptions

British Airways has just launched two impressive sales on its Avios reward flights from London: £1 taxes, and 50% off redemptions. They are joined on the 50% off promotion by Iberia.

The first is a reduction of the Reward Flight Saver (the capped £35 fee for Avios redemption flights) from £35 per return flight to just £1 to certain destinations.

The second is a reduction in the number of Avios needed to book a reward flight by 50% or 25%. British Airways sister company Iberia has also joined this sale, as set out below.

£1 tax cap

The £1 tax cap applies to flights to the following destinations until 31 January 2015 (Economy only):

To be clear, you of course still need to pay the standard number of Avios listed above, but will save yourself a flat £34 per booking. Given that the taxes are invariably the downside to any reward flight redemption, the £35 Reward Flight Saver cap is great value. At £1, it’s a great time to redeem.

Avios discounts

The 50% discount in Avios applies to reward flights to the following destinations until 31 January 2015 (Economy only):

Iberia also has a number of 50% discounted Avios routes to and from Madrid, in both Economy and Business Class. You can book here, and full details of the available flights are here, and set out below:

Given that these discounts also apply to Business Class flights, and the taxes/fees on Iberia Plus redemptions are substantially lower than those for BA flights, this offer is well worth looking at.

The 25% discount in Avios applies to reward flights to the following destinations until 31 January 2015 (Economy only):

The smallprint on the BA flight dates is as follows:

In both BA cases, you need to book by 23:59 UK time on 17 November 2014. Iberia flights need to be booked by the end of 15 November.
