Discount redemption flights with Iberia – until 31 August
As the sister airline of British Airways, Iberia also uses Avios as its frequent flyer currency. It also offers regular discounts on the number of Avios needed to fly with it.
Iberia is currently offering a sale on certain redemption flights (i.e. flights paid for with Avios), with discounts of 20-30% on the number of Avios you need to book these flights.
The deals are pretty good, and include flights between Madrid and Istanbul at 8,000 Avios, and Madrid and Bostin at 14,000 Avios.
Flights available are as follows:
20% discount (all classes)
Band 2: From 6,000 Avios for a one way trip:
– To / From Madrid to Brussels, Milan, Munich, Rome or Venice.
Band 3: From 8.000 Avios for a one way trip:
– To / From Madrid to Istanbul, Moscow or Saint Petersburg.
30% discount (economy only)
Band 1: From 3,150 Avios for a one way trip:
– To / From Madrid to A Coruña or Oviedo.
Band 5: From 14,000 Avios for a one way trip:
– To / From Madrid to Boston.
Band 6: From 17,500 Avios for a one way trip:
– To / From Madrid to Quito or Sao Paolo.
Band 7: From 21,000 Avios for a one way trip:
– To / From Madrid to Buenos Aires or Santiago de Chile.
The offer is valid for tickets issued and used from now until 30 August 2014.
While there is the potential inconvenience of having to route through Madrid, there is also a huge upside to redeeming Avios on Iberia, even without the 20-30% discount. The taxes on Iberia (payable in addition to the Avios) are, almost without exception, substantially lower than those for equivalent flights on British Airways. As such, this offer is well worth a look, because you won’t just be saving on Avios, you will potentially be saving a lot in tax too.
